Finishing Fitness Touches for PQ08

The Portland half of the Nike ACG/Gore-tex (Julie and Peter) have been weathering quite the spring of record snow levels and rain as they put the final finishing touches of training on prior to tapering down to race day (June 23rd). Our Gore-tex and Windstopper apparel has really enabled us to make the most out of the challenging weather conditions and allowed us to remain warm, dry, and injury free throughout a season of inclement weather.

On May 25th, we ran 25 miles with weighted backpacks on the Wildwood Trail that runs through both Forest Park and Washington Park in the city of Portland. The weather was damp and ugly as we sloshed through to the end. After 3 hours of otherwise empty trails, we came across a horde of runners from the opposite direction, competing in the Forest Park Trail Run ranging from 10k-50k distance. All the foot traffic on the single track quickly made trail conditions even tougher as we squeezed through tight spots where packs of runners were approaching from the opposite direction. We finished out the day covering the 25 miles and 2000ft vertical in 4 hours and 30 mins, with a cummulative pack weight of 35lbs.
